Dr. Illana Platt is the Vice President of Innovation and Regulatory Affairs at CannTrust.

With a PhD in medical sciences, Dr. Ilana Platt’s illustrious career includes more than 17 years of research ranging from clinical, animal and cell research to product development, and more than eight years as a regulatory affairs professional. In her role as Vice President, Innovation & Global Regulatory Affairs at CannTrust – one of Canada’s leading and most trusted licensed producers of cannabis – Dr. Platt has obtained numerous key licenses for the company including licenses to grow, manufacture, sell, and conduct research. She is also the co-inventor of BrewBudzTM, a patented line of quality, cannabis-infused coffee, tea and hot chocolate sold in K-Cup compatible pods.

Dr. Platt helped make history by working with Stenocare, CannTrust’s Danish partner, to have CannTrust medical cannabis oils approved as the first and only cannabis oils available in Denmark. She has also been instrumental in working with the CannTrust team to establish important, evidence-based clinical trials to study the effects of cannabis on ALS and pain management.

Dr. Platt earned her BSc. at McMaster University in biochemistry and her PhD at the University of Toronto. Following her PhD studies, Dr. Platt completed a Post-Doctoral Fellowship at Harvard Schools of Medicine/Dental Medicine. Dr. Platt is also the recipient of 13 national and international awards including a post graduate scholarship from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada. 


Since 2013, CannTrust has been delivering standardized products that enable physicians to provide accurate dosage to patients, similar to pharmaceuticals, all while rapidly building capacity and capability to expand into new categories: the adult use market, over-the-counter, natural healthcare products, pet care, and beauty.
